brand-ade Welcome

Many people ask us why our e-mails and website have the extension EGD. It stands for Environmental Graphic Design. What is that?

Environmental Graphic Design embraces many design disciplines including graphic, architectural, interior, landscape, and industrial design, all concerned with the visual aspects of wayfinding, communicating identity and information, and shaping the idea of place.

The next time you enter your office – or set up your tradeshow – or look at your brochure – ask yourself, “Does this build brand equity and speak about our company?” If it doesn’t you would benefit from environmental graphic design.

to the first issue of atmosphere, a newsletter about visual brand extension. In today’s global economy, businesses are finding the need to strengthen their corporate identity to increase their hold in the market. Through internal and external corporate branding, they are building brand equity with their employees and clients and broadening their market share. The open house was a great success! Many clients, vendors, friends and family came to celebrate Presentations new beginning. Some people came from as far away as Wisconsin and Minnesota, others sent congratulations and presents in response to Presentations flood recovery. Presentations would like to thank everyone who is helping them through this difficult period and joined in celebrating their new beginning.

artwork piece was created for the 30 foot space. Six main images incorporate large photo mosaics made up of over 3000 individual Mount Mercy life photos. The curving blue Plexiglas and warm wood pieces add an organic flow and dimension to the photo mosaic prints. Viewed from a distance, the prints are representations of the four goals; viewed up close, the individual photos are the embodiment of Mount Mercy, joining the mission, values and vision of Mount Mercy into one visual branding element.

Mount Mercy College recently unveiled their newly remodeled main campus dining facility. Many months prior to beginning construction, Presentations was asked to design and incorporate branding elements into the new interior design for the space.

The first phase Presentations addressed was a new Italian tile floor to cover the existing Terrazzo floor. Presentations conceptualized the Mount Mercy College foundational Catholic symbolism and hilltop curves into the two-tone tile floor. The result is a visually stunning floor that incorporates the Mount Mercy values throughout the new space while keeping with the interior design concepts.

The second phase was the major focal point wall in the dining facility. Themed and designed around Mount Mercy’s interdependent goals – Reflect, Engage, Serve, Live – a dimensional

MERCY MEDICAL CENTER
- dedication

Located more than 10 blocks outside the flood zone, Mercy Medical Center was shocked to see the flood waters of June 2008 enter the ground level of their hospital. While volunteers, Mercy employees and contract workers held back the waters, Mercy employees succeeded in evacuating over 200 patients out the higher side of the hospital. To commemorate this heroic effort, Presentations took Mercy’s initial concept and created a custom aluminum band, to represent the final Cedar River crest and the dedication and determination of the people involved. The custom artwork is located ouside the newly remodeled ground level of Mercy Medical Center.

EPAL WINDOWS
- display recovery

Located in the flooded downtown Cedar Rapids, Epal Windows’ brand new tradeshow exhibit was covered in “flood sludge” and the graphics and custom cabinet were destroyed. Recovering the aluminum truss system, Presentations was able to reproduce the fabric panels, the custom cabinet and graphic panels from their electronic files. Good as new and ready for the tradeshow season, Epal Windows’ was up and running.

It has been four months since the flood of 2008 devastated the Midwest, including Presentations. Even though the water receded very quickly, the impact of the high water will be felt for many years. Some local businesses are still not open, some businesses have decided not to return, and many of the buildings are still not inhabitable or are standing abandoned. Among the devastation, Presentations is proud to be a part of these shining and hopeful moments.

THEATRE CEDAR RAPIDS
- the show must go on

The local, community theatre, located in the historic Iowa Theatre Building in downtown Cedar Rapids, was destroyed by the flood waters in June. Not willing to give up, and looking at their 75th year, TCR heroically scrambled to find venues for all of the upcoming season. After putting on 3 different shows in 3 different locations, the theatre was able to secure a permanent location at the old Plaza Theatre outside Lindale Mall. The space was far from "theatrical", but with a lot of paint, wood and lighting, the space took on the necessary changes. Presentations added the visual branding - window graphics, wayfinding and the marketing banners to bring the people back to the theatre for it's historic year.
